A growing number of green-minded parents are starting to recognize the health and ecological benefits of reusable cloth diapers over disposables. Most brands of disposables are made from petroleum-derived plastic and wood fiber-some 25,000 trees fall each year to feed America’s disposable diaper addiction.

Say yes to a green engagement ring
According to Global Witness, conflict diamonds are diamonds that are used by rebel groups to increase conflict and civil wars which lead to millions of lives being lost. Terrorist groups such as Al-Qaeda also use diamonds to finance their activities. It’s hard to estimate how many diamonds are “blood diamonds.”
Many women want a diamond engagement ring, so here are some green alternatives that decrease the potential of buying a conflict diamond:
- Heirloom Diamond: Give a diamond engagement ring that is being passed down through the family. If the ring being passed down isn’t the right style, the couple can find a jeweler who will melt down the metal and use the diamond to create a “new” ring.
- Antique Diamond Ring: Purchase an antique ring which recycles a ring that has already been made and purchased. Usually one can find antique rings that cost much less than the average 7000 dollars that is spent on an engagement ring.
- Canadian Diamond Ring: In the Northwest Territories of Canada, there are strict environmental and working condition regulations regarding diamond mining.
- Synthetic and Cultured Diamond Rings: Buy one of these rings that cost less and guarantee that it didn’t come at the expense of the environment and human lives.
Taranta, Green dining in Boston

Avoid restaurants because of their wastefulness? Not anymore.
Still young in the North End, Taranta Restaurant (located at 210 Hanover St.), has made its mark.
“TARANTA is the result of a marriage between Southern Italian Cuisine and Peruvian Cuisine, and it’s success is due to its quality of food and service, and having a strong personality really helps… Taranta became a green certified restaurant in October 2007 after completing several environmental changes. Taranta has received the City of Boston Green Bussines Award in 2008 and is continuing a sustainable, carbon neutral business practique for the next years.”
Nike Demonstrates Power of Yogurt vs. Gasoline
Nike has made a really interesting video demonstrating the power of going green! It’s a simple, yet very effective video showing a race through New York City between a man on a bicycle whose only fuel was yogurt, against a man on a gas powered motocycle. More people that live in cities should see this video and think about how they travel on a day to day basis.
An interview with Barack Obama about his presidential platform on energy and the environment

In his two and a half years in the U.S. Senate, Barack Obama has been active — even hyperactive — on matters of energy and the environment. The Democrat from Illinois has introduced or cosponsored nearly 100 eco-related bills on issues ranging from lead poisoning and mercury emissions to auto fuel economy and biofuels promotion. Along the way, he’s racked up a notable 96 percent rating from the League of Conservation Voters. [Update: In February 2008, Obama's lifetime LCV score was changed to 86 -- lower than before because he missed some key votes while on the road campaigning.]
lower gasoline prices bad?

Economic relief is at the pump. Gasoline prices have fallen dramatically. Some in the MSM just don’t like it. You see, lower gas prices are bad:
Obama’s Enviromental Platform
What does Obama actually stand for? Here is a pretty straightforward outline of his environmental policies.

How Green Is the Inauguration of Barack Obama? (FOX NEWS take at least)

The Presidential Inauguration Committee is hoping that the estimated 2 million people who come to see Barack Obama sworn in as the 44th president of the United States on Tuesday will do like good hikers everywhere do: leave Washington, D.C., as clean as they found it.

Interest is churning for hydroelectric power

Many decades ago, cost-conscious Henry Ford turned to hydroelectric plants to power his car factories like the one by the Great Miami River, near this Cincinnati suburb. That assembly plant is long gone, but the power plant and the technology behind it isn’t.
