Marriott International, the green choice in hotels

Marriott International has embraced  green.  With more than 1,000 hotels world wide, providing utilities such as heat and water has impacted their carbon footprint, but the Marriott has developed new ways to reduce, reuse, recycle.

For the past 30 years Marriott International has done its part to reduce their emissions by implementing the use of energy saving light bulbs to conserving as much water as they can.  The latest steps being made is the elimination of linens for conferences, this slight change will save on water and detergent.  Other changes being made are the use of recycled materials, such as pens (made of 75% recycled plastic) and paper.

Marriott has developed a “Green Strategy” for the preservation of the environment.  The first step is aiding in the protection of millions of acres of the rain forest in partnership with the state of Amazonas in Brazil.  Water, Waste, and Energy reduction is a part of the strategy that will make way for more energy efficiency, Marriott International plans, by 2017, to install solar power in 40 hotels.  Greening their supply chain has been seen with their use of recycled stationary supplies for both employees and guests, this helps with the 48 millions pens bought each year.  Marriott has also started building “green” hotels, under the certification of LEED standards; in addition to having LEED certified hotels Marriott also has 258 hotels certified by Energy Star.  Marriott is greening their customers and employees by introducing green products into guest’s rooms that will contribute to the hotel saving on water and other energy needs.  Also, empoyees will recieve discounts on hybrid rental cars for business trips.
